Like drug and alcohol addiction, gambling addiction is very detrimental to the addict, and ca lead to financial and legal problems, relationships problems, job loss, criminal behavior, and even suicide. The simple truth is that gambling addiction, like any other addiction (illicit or prescription drugs, alcohol, sex, eating disorders), is a type of impulse-control disorder. There may be other factors at work as well, such as co-occurring addictions, family history of gambling, social milieu and more.
